Solving the Problem 8A

  • My opportunity is based on women and girls needing more protection especially while alone in public. Through several interviews I have found that all women have felt scared at some point while out alone. A majority of them felt the need for more protection while out in public. This need is not imaginary; with 2 women murdered and 12 raped every hour in the United States alone, can you blame them for being worried? Therefore, my need encompasses protecting women from abduction, rape, assault, and other violent crimes.
  • My product is a small device that could clip to your pocket. It would have a button on it that when pushed would sound an alarm in addition to calling 911. Also, it would have a GPS on it so the police would be able to track it to the location of the victim.
  • Through my interviews, one interviewee recommended adding a microphone to it so the victim could communicate with police, which I think would be beneficial.
  • Although there is already a small device that goes on a keychain with a button that sounds an alarm, this device does not offer any kind of location service or contacting the authorities. This device may startle an attacker, but if the attacker persists, the device would no longer be helpful.
  • iPhones now have a feature where if the off button is pushed 5 times rapidly, it calls emergency services. However, users have to set this up in settings and not all iPhone users know about this feature. Also, sometimes phones are not charged or it may not be in reach if an individual becomes the victim of an attack.

  1. I like the potential your idea has, especially because this is a real problem that needs to be addressed. Some things that immediately came to mind when reading this were how you would handle battery life of this product, how do you plan to differentiate this from other similar devices on the market, and how do you plan to combat the fact that iPhones already come with this functionality? These are just some things that are worth considering in my eyes as you are developing this idea.

  2. Hi Brandi! I think this is a very interesting product. I think there is definitely a need for it, and you have a very large target market to sell to. I am impressed that you have already thought through a lot of the specifics of the product. One suggestion that I would make is to allow the product to be put on a key chain. I think more people would be interested in a key chain attachment than something that clips on their clothing.

My Entrepreneurship Story 3A

My Entrepreneurship Story Entrepreneurship. Some people find this word intimidating; however, my family has a lengthy history of taking the bull by the horns. Let’s begin with my grandpa on my mom’s side, he began working as an electrician in the 1970s alongside my great-uncle. Together, they formed their own electrical business which is still operating to this day. On my dad’s side of my family my grandpa owned and operated a moving company which he built from the ground up. Eventually, he had five different locations across the country. Then, there’s my mom’s mother, my Mimi. She bought a balloon shop and a floral shop. She combined the two and was a successful florist for 15 years. My grandparents’ business ventures must have encouraged my parents to do the same. Today, my dad and mom own an electrical business. My dad started out as an electrician for my grandpa, but decided he wanted to work for himself. So, he left my grandpa’s company and assumed his o...
